Tuesday - May 17: Freak the Mighty and Morpheme of the week

Today there will be no activity to accompany the novel. We merely be reading chapters 8 and 9.

Below are a list of the Morpheme of the Week that will be on the Final Exam. Please make sure that you study these in depth so you are prepared for the Final Exam:

Morpheme: INTER
Word: Interact
Definition: to act upon one another
Sentence: The students were scolded for their interaction during S.S.R.

Morpheme: INTRA
Word: Intramural
Definition: involving only students at the same school or college
Sentence: I did not make the FSU football team, so I signed up for an intramural team instead.

Morpheme: DIA
Word: Dialog
Definition: conversation between two or more persons
Sentence: I asked them to hold their dialogue until after S.S.R.
Morpheme: AUDIT
Word: Auditorium
Definition: the space set apart for the audience in a theater, school, or other public building
Sentence: Students in 2nd and 3rd period classes were escorted to the auditorium for the Black History Performance.

Morpheme: PEND
Word: Appendix
Definition: extra materials added at the end of a book
Sentence: Joe never reads the chapters; he just uses the appendix to finish his homework.

Morpheme: CIRCUM
Word: Circumvent
Definition: to avoid being stopped by (a law or rule), to get around something in a clever, often dishonest way
Sentence: The hacker circumvented the firewall using a program he created.

Morpheme: TECH
Word: Technique
Definition: a way of doing something by using special knowledge or skill
Sentence: Today we learned some techniques for relieving stress.

Morpheme: LAT
Word: Lateral
Definition: toward, on or coming from the side
Sentence: To avoid getting tackled, he made a lateral pass to one of his teammates.

Morpheme: CO
Word: Coexist
Definition: to exist together at the same time
Sentence: The two species coexist together in the same environment

Morpheme: DEC
Word: decadent
Definition: having low morals and a great love of pleasure, money, fame, etc.
Sentence: The book condemns some of society’s wealthiest members as decadent fools

Morpheme: NYM
Word: Synonym
Definition: a word that has the same meaning as another word used in the same language
Sentence: “Small” and “little” are synonyms

Morpheme: OMN     
Word: Omnibus
Definition: a book containing reprints of a number of works
Sentence: J.R.R Tolkien released an omnibus of all his famous novels.

Morpheme: EX
Word: exclude
Definition: to leave out (something or someone): to not include (something or someone)
Sentence: The prices on the menu exclude tax

Morpheme: NEO
Word: Neonatal
Definition: medical: of, relating to, or taking care of babies in the first month after their birth
Sentence: The baby that was born 3 weeks early was in a neonatal unit.

Morpheme: PRO
Word: Procrastinate
Definition: to be slow or late about doing something that should be done; to delay doing something until later because you “do not feel like it”
Sentence: He procrastinated and missed the submission deadline.
